 Tray Sprouting

Sprouting hemp seeds through this method is simple. Start by removing any cracked or damaged eating hemp seed sprouts from the sift. Then, follow the steps stated below:

  1. Place seeds in a jar, fill the container halfway with water, and fasten the top.
  2.  Shake the jar thoroughly for a few seconds to clean the seeds.
  3.  Allow the water to drain by pouring them into a fine-mesh strainer.
  4.  Repeat until the water is free of contaminants.
  5.  Put back the seeds into the jar and cover them with water.
  6.  Allow them to soak for 12 to 24 hours.
  7.  Drain them using a mesh strainer.
  8.  Fill a pie plate with a 1-inch layer of potting soil.
  9.  Spread the hemp seeds thinly and evenly over the soil.
  10.  Fold a full sheet of newspaper in half. Place the dampened paper on top of the pie plate.
  11.  Wrap transparent plastic wrap around the newspaper neatly.
  12.  Keep the tray in a warm place and out of direct sunlight.
  13. Wait two-three days for the sprouts to push up through the plastic wrap. Remove the plastic and newspaper from the sprout tray, and place it in a light source that is not direct.
  14. Water it lightly once or twice daily to keep the soil moist and damp,
  15.  After removing the newspaper cover, harvest your sprouts in about one week. Carefully clip them away from the tray, being cautious not to contaminate your clean sprouts with soil.

Jar Sprouting

Like tray sprouting, this method is easy. All that you need is a wide-mouth jar and paper towel. Sprouting jars are also available in the market these days. You can choose from them or use a canning jar. Here are the further instructions for eating hemp seed sprouts.

  1.  First, clean and rinse the hemp seeds.
  2.  Now place them in the jar and cover them with some warm water. Ensure all seeds remain constantly moist.
  3.  Wrap a clean cheesecloth tightly around the mouth of the jar using an elastic band.
  4.  Rinse the seeds two or three times more. Turn the jar upside down over a sink to drain the water.
  5.  Alternatively, strain the water and seeds through a fine-mesh strainer.
  6.  To prevent seeds from falling into the sink, make sure the holes in your strainer are much smaller than the seeds.
  7.  After draining all of the soaking water from the container, rinse the seeds by filling the jar with fresh water.
  8.  Swish the seeds around and drain them well after each rinse.
  9. Keep the jar in a warm place, such as a cupboard, for the first three days or until they begin to sprout,
  10. Later, place the container in indirect light to allow the sprouts to turn green.
  11.  Continue with the soaking, draining, and rinsing process every day until your sprouts attain the desired size. This process can take six to seven days.

Note that hemp sprouts are best to eat when they are still small and turned green. Once they are ready to eat, wrap fresh sprouts in a paper towel. The towel helps soak up excess moisture. You can store them in a food storage bag or covered bowl in your refrigerator. But make sure to eat them within 3-4 days. You should avoid eating wilted, slimy, or musty-smelling sprouts.
